NHTSA safety advisories
Vehicles NHTSA says not to drive, or to park outside
These are the most urgent instructions the agency issues. They are NHTSA’s own words, not our assessment, and they sit above every severity score on this site because they tell you what to do right now rather than how bad the defect is.
What these two mean
Do not drive — NHTSA advises owners to stop driving the vehicle until the recall repair is done. The defect is dangerous in normal use.
Park outside — the vehicle can catch fire while switched off and parked, so NHTSA advises keeping it away from buildings and other vehicles until it is repaired. This one surprises people: the risk does not stop when the engine does.
Always confirm against the agency notice linked on each recall page — advisories are lifted once a remedy is available, and this list is rebuilt hourly rather than live.
Do not drive (211)
