GMC Yukon and Other GM Vehicles with Transfer Case Defect

General Motors is recalling certain 2026 GMC Yukon, Sierra 1500, Yukon XL and other GM vehicles, as well as select 2015–2020 models, due to a missing component in the drivetrain transfer case that may cause wheel lockup without warning. The defect increases the risk of a crash.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting the drivetrain transfer case that poses a significant risk of harm (wheel lockup leading to crash risk). No injuries or deaths have been reported in the source text, but the defect affects a critical safety component, which per the rubric places it at the High level.

Plain-English summary

General Motors, LLC is recalling certain 2026 Cadillac Escalade and Escalade ESV, Chevrolet Silverado 1500, Suburban, and Tahoe, and GMC Sierra 1500, Yukon, and Yukon XL vehicles with four-wheel or all-wheel drive. The recall also covers certain 2015–2020 Suburban, Escalade, Escalade ESV, Yukon, Yukon XL, and Tahoe vehicles. A missing component in the drivetrain transfer case is the cause.

A component missing from the transfer case may cause the front and/or rear wheels to lock up without warning to the driver. This lockup increases the risk of a crash.

Owners are advised not to drive their vehicle until the remedy is completed. Dealers will inspect and, if necessary, replace the transfer case assembly, free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed June 22, 2026. Owners may contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782, Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or Cadillac customer service at 1-800-333-4223. GM's recall number is N262557620.
