Certain Chevrolet and GMC trucks recalled for faulty transmission control software updates
General Motors is recalling certain 2020-2022 Chevrolet Silverado and GMC Sierra trucks due to incorrect transmission control software repairs under a prior recall. The defect may cause the rear wheels to lock up, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a vehicle defect with crash risk potential where no injuries have been reported, meeting the criterion for Score 3 (risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported).
Plain-English summary
General Motors, LLC is recalling certain Chevrolet Silverado 1500, 2500, and 3500 trucks, as well as GMC Sierra 1500, 2500, and 3500 models from model years 2020–2022 that were subject to an earlier repair under recall 24V797. The previous repair was performed incorrectly and left the transmission control valve susceptible to failure.
If the transmission control valve fails, it may cause the rear wheels to lock up during driving. Rear wheel lock-up removes traction and control from the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.
