NHTSA safety advisory
Park this vehicle outside
NHTSA advises parking it away from buildings and other vehicles until the repair is done — the risk exists even when the vehicle is switched off.
This is the agency’s own advisory, not our assessment. Contact the manufacturer or a dealer, and see the official NHTSA notice for the current guidance.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a critical brake system component defect (BPMV assembly bolts may fail to seal), which qualifies as a structural vehicle defect. However, no illnesses, injuries, fires, or property damage are reported in the source. Per the rubric, when the hazard is theoretical and no harm has been documented, the maximum severity score is 3.
Plain-English summary
General Motors, LLC is recalling certain 2021-2022 model year Chevrolet Silverado 2500, Silverado 3500, GMC Sierra 2500, and Sierra 3500 vehicles. The recall affects vehicles with electronic brake control modules (EBCM) that were replaced during vehicle assembly. An estimated 3,241 vehicles are affected.
The issue involves the brake pressure modulator valve (BPMV) assembly. The bolts attaching this assembly may not be properly tightened, which could fail to seal the two sub-assemblies. This allows water to enter the BPMV, potentially causing an electrical short circuit in the brake system.
Water intrusion and the resulting electrical short circuit create a risk of fire in the vehicle. Owners are advised to park affected vehicles outside and away from other structures until the recall repair is completed.
General Motors will replace the BPMV assembly free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on October 20, 2021. Owners can contact GMC customer service at 1-800-462-8782 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
