What this means for you

Our assessment, not the agency’s: severity 5/5 (Critical).

Highest-severity recall. The hazard can cause serious injury or death. Stop using the product now and follow the agency's instructions.

Our severity reasoning: The source reports a serious injury, specifically a broken jaw sustained by a technician during a boiler servicing incident involving the front cover detaching.

Plain-English summary

Ariston Canada Inc. (formerly NTI Boilers Inc.) is recalling NTI and HTP brand residential gas boilers. The recall includes NTI FTVN and TFTN model series and HTP EFTU model series units. These are metal, rectangular units with either NTI or HTP printed on the front.

The hazard involves the condensate dish inside the boiler, which can crack during a delayed ignition. This allows unburned gas to build up inside the sealed cabinet. If the gas ignites, the front cover can suddenly detach, posing a risk of serious injury or death from fire, carbon monoxide (CO) poisoning, and impact hazards. The firm has received 34 reported incidents of the condensate dish breaking, including three reports of the front cover detaching. In one reported incident, a technician servicing the boiler sustained a broken jaw.

The boilers were sold nationwide from May 2021 through July 2026 for between $3,200 and $7,700. A total of 4,726 units were sold in the United States, and 2,261 were sold in Canada. Consumers should stop using the recalled boilers immediately and contact Ariston to schedule a free repair by a certified technician. Those who must continue using the boiler while awaiting repair should have working smoke and carbon monoxide alarms in their homes.
