School Buses Recalled for Brake System Fire Risk

International Motors recalls certain 2016-2024 IC Bus CESB school buses due to a brake pressure switch assembly that may leak brake fluid into its electrical components, creating a fire hazard.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake pressure switch electrical hazard with fire risk). No injuries, deaths, or fires have been reported, and the hazard remains theoretical rather than an actual safety incident.

Plain-English summary

International Motors, LLC is recalling certain IC Bus CESB school buses manufactured between 2016 and 2024. The brake pressure switch assembly may develop a leak, allowing brake fluid to contact the assembly's electrical components.

When brake fluid enters the electrical portion of the switch, it can cause an electrical short-circuit. This short can overheat the circuit, increasing the risk of a fire while the bus is driving or parked.

The recall affects 16,553 vehicles across model years 2016 through 2024. Owner notification letters were mailed on December 15, 2025. Vehicles previously repaired under recall 23V398 will require this new remedy as well.

Owners are advised to park buses outside and away from structures until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will install a replacement silicone black jumper harness at no cost. Contact International customer service at 1-800-448-7825 for repair scheduling.
