Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Silverado, 2014 GMC Sierra, and 2015 Chevrolet Tahoe vehicles. The recall covers vehicles manufactured between May 2013 and March 2014 for the Silverado and Sierra, and between January 2014 and March 2014 for the Tahoe.
The defect involves the tie rod threaded attachment, which may not be properly tightened to the steering gear rack. An improperly tightened attachment may allow the tie rod to separate from the steering rack, resulting in a loss of steering and increasing the risk of a vehicle crash.
Owners are advised not to drive their vehicles until they have been inspected and repaired. They should contact General Motors to have their vehicles towed to a dealership. Dealers will inspect the inner tie rods to ensure they are correctly tightened and will replace the steering gear as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on May 14, 2014.
