Plain-English summary
Vicinity Motor Corporation is recalling certain 2017 Vi33 and 2022 Vi35 buses powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). The recall involves 28 vehicles where the low-pressure CNG hoses and fittings are insufficient and may leak. This defect causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 304, "Compressed Natural Gas Fuel Container Integrity."
A compressed natural gas leak can result in a fire or explosion, increasing the risk of injury. Owners are advised to remove the vehicles from service until the final remedy becomes available. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk were mailed on August 1, 2024.
Dealers will replace the low-pressure CNG hoses free of charge once the remedy is available. A second notice will be sent to owners when the fix is ready. Owners may contact Vicinity customer service at 1-604-607-4000 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
