NABI Transit Buses Recalled for CNG Fuel Cylinder Interference Risk
NABI is recalling 2013-2014 transit buses equipped with compressed natural gas systems because a bolt may damage the fuel cylinder, posing a fire risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural defect in the fuel system that poses a risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for 'structural vehicle defect' or 'significant injury/property-damage reports' (potential for severe harm).
Plain-English summary
NABI Bus, LLC is recalling certain model year 2013-2014 40LFW, 2013 35LFW, and 2013 31LFW transit buses equipped with compressed natural gas (CNG) fuel systems. The affected vehicles were manufactured between October 2012 and March 2014 for the 40LFW, October 2013 and January 2014 for the 35LFW, and February 2013 and October 2013 for the 31LFW.
In these vehicles, a bolt on the latch assembly that holds the CNG top covers closed may come into contact with the CNG fuel cylinder. This contact may damage the fuel cylinder, potentially causing a fuel leak and increasing the risk of a fire.
NABI Bus, LLC will notify owners, and dealers will eliminate the possible interference free of charge. The recall began in May 2014. Owners may contact NABI Bus at 1-256-831-4296. NABI's number for this recall is 20142. Owners may also contact the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 or visit www.safercar.gov.
