What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (suspension bolts) that can cause loss of steering and increase the risk of a crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Spark vehicles manufactured between May 7, 2014, and May 26, 2014. The recall addresses a defect where the left and right lower control arm attaching bolts in the front suspension may not be tightened to specification.
If these bolts are not tightened properly, the lower control arm may separate from the steering knuckle while driving. This separation can cause a loss of steering, which increases the risk of a crash.
Owners are instructed not to drive their vehicles until the recall remedy has been completed. They should call a Chevrolet dealer immediately to arrange for the vehicle to be transported free of charge for servicing. Dealers will inspect the bolts and tighten them to the proper specification at no cost to the owner. The recall began on August 1, 2014.
