Plain-English summary

New Flyer Industries Ltd. is recalling certain model year 2016 New Flyer XN60 and XN40 Xcelsior transit buses. The affected vehicles were manufactured between June 22, 2016, and September 14, 2016, and are powered by compressed natural gas (CNG). A total of 38 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The recall is due to a defect in the CNG system where the pressure relief device (PRD) may fracture and separate. This failure allows for a high-pressure release of CNG. An unexpected release of CNG gas in the presence of an ignition source increases the risk of a fire.

New Flyer has notified owners, and dealers will install a new vent tubing system and replace the PRD free of charge. The recall began on September 28, 2016. Owners are advised to remove the vehicles from operation until the recall remedy can be applied. Owners may contact New Flyer customer service at 1-204-224-6706 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
