Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2015-2016 FCCC XBP, XBR, XCM, XCR, XCL, and XCP trucks. These vehicles were manufactured between May 1, 2014, and June 16, 2015, and are equipped with specific ZF RL77 / 80EM independent front steering axles and Bosch 8018 steering boxes.

The recall is due to steering boxes that were manufactured using incorrect internal spacers. This defect can cause premature wear in the connection between the steering wheel and the front axle. If the connection fails, the driver could experience a sudden loss of steering ability, increasing the risk of a crash.

Owners are urged not to drive their vehicles until they have been inspected. DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will inspect and replace the steering box if necessary, free of charge.
