What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (vehicle brake system) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the High severity criteria for potential crash risk without confirmed fatalities or injuries.
Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2012-2015 FCCC XCL, XCM, XCP, and XCR motorhome chassis manufactured between January 23, 2012, and April 10, 2014. The recall involves 2,275 vehicles.
The defect involves the throttle pedal position sensor, which may not return to zero. This failure can cause the engine brake to suddenly not activate as expected, reducing the vehicle's deceleration ability. A sudden loss of the engine brake without warning on a motorhome may lead to reduced braking ability, potentially increasing the risk of a crash.
DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will replace the throttle pedal free of charge. An interim notice was mailed to owners on July 5, 2016, and the recall began on August 18, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
