Daimler Trucks Recalls Freightliner and Western Star Trucks for Brake Defect

Daimler Trucks North America is recalling certain 2020-2023 Freightliner Cascadia and 2022 Western Star 49X trucks because corroded brake valves may cause the vehicle to pull during braking.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake system failure) that increases the risk of a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for significant injury/property-damage reports or structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2020-2023 Freightliner Cascadia and 2022 Western Star 49X vehicles. This recall applies to vehicles that were previously repaired incorrectly under recall numbers 23V073 or 22V817. The defect involves brake modulator valves on the front axle that may corrode.

If these valves corrode, they may cause the vehicle to pull to one side during braking initiated by Electronic Stability Control (ESC) or Roll Stability Control (RSC). Brakes that pull to one side may cause a sudden change in vehicle direction, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the brake modulator valves free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed November 8, 2026. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is F1039. Vehicles repaired under the prior recalls will need the new repair completed.
