Freightliner Custom Chassis fuel hoses recalled for separation and fire risk
Daimler Trucks North America is recalling 2022-2025 Freightliner Custom Chassis trucks with certain Cummins L9 engines because fuel filter hoses may separate from fittings, causing fuel leaks and engine stalls. This creates risks of fire and crashes.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This scores High because it involves a documented risk-of-harm vehicle defect (fuel leak and engine stall leading to fire and crash risks) where no injuries or deaths have been reported. The hazard is real but unrealized.
Plain-English summary
Daimler Trucks North America, LLC is recalling certain 2022-2025 Freightliner Custom Chassis trucks equipped with Cummins L9 diesel engines. The remote fuel filter hoses may separate from their fittings, which can cause fuel leaks and engine stalls.
When a fuel leak occurs near an ignition source, it increases the risk of fire. Engine stalls increase the risk of crashes. No injuries or deaths have been reported, but the recall addresses these documented safety risks.
The recall affects approximately 277 vehicles across multiple Custom Chassis models: XCM, XCR, XBS, and XCS from model years 2022-2025. Owner notification letters were mailed on March 11, 2025.
