What this means for you

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a fuel leak that increases the risk of a fire, which aligns with the rubric criterion for 'significant injury/property-damage reports' or structural vehicle defects involving fire hazards.

Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain 2021-2022 Freightliner XC Chassis and 2022 Freightliner XB Chassis vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with Cummins L9 Diesel Engines that have remote Stage 2 fuel filters and pressurized hoses.

A fuel leak may occur from the fuel hose located between the fuel pump and the remote fuel filter head. If a fuel leak occurs in the presence of an ignition source, it increases the risk of a fire.

Cummins will replace the fuel hoses free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on September 3, 2021. Owners may contact DTNA's customer service at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
