What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (improper hose routing) that creates a risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating involving significant injury or property-damage reports or structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2011-2017 Freightliner Custom Chassis Corporation (FCCC) XBR, XCL, XCM, and XCR recreational vehicle chassis equipped with Cummins ISL engines. The recall affects 9,480 vehicles.

The power steering hose on the affected vehicles may be routed incorrectly. This improper routing can cause the hose to rub against the power stud on the starter motor, potentially leading to electrical arcing and a power steering fluid leak. Electrical arcing in the presence of leaking power steering fluid can increase the risk of a fire.

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will reroute the power steering hose to provide proper clearance, free of charge. The recall is expected to begin in May 2018. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712. DTNA's number for this recall is FL-762. This recall is an expansion of 16V-809.
