Daimler Trucks Recalls 2016-2017 FCCC Chassis for Fire Risk

Daimler Trucks is recalling 1,827 model year 2016-2017 FCCC recreational vehicle chassis because an incorrectly routed power steering hose may cause electrical arcing and a fire.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (improper hose routing) that creates a risk of fire, which aligns with the rubric criteria for a Severe (4) rating involving significant injury or property-damage reports or structural defects.

Plain-English summary

Daimler Trucks North America, LLC (DTNA) is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 FCCC XBR, XCL, XCM, and XCR recreational vehicle chassis manufactured between January 1, 2016, and October 12, 2016. These vehicles are equipped with Cummins ISL engines. The recall covers 1,827 affected units.

The power steering hose on the affected vehicles may be routed incorrectly. This improper routing can cause the hose to rub against the power stud on the starter motor, potentially leading to electrical arcing and a power steering fluid leak. Electrical arcing in the presence of leaking power steering fluid can increase the risk of a fire.

DTNA will notify owners, and dealers will reroute the power steering hose to provide proper clearance, free of charge. The recall began on December 27, 2016. Owners may contact DTNA customer service at 1-800-547-0712 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
