Nissan Recalls Murano, Maxima, Pathfinder, and QX60 for Brake Fire Risk

NHTSA safety advisory
Park this vehicle outside
NHTSA advises parking it away from buildings and other vehicles until the repair is done — the risk exists even when the vehicle is switched off.
This is the agency’s own advisory, not our assessment. Contact the manufacturer or a dealer, and see the official NHTSA notice for the current guidance.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake system) that explicitly increases the risk of a fire, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain 2015-2017 Nissan Murano, 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima, 2017-2018 Nissan Pathfinder, and 2017 Infiniti QX60 vehicles. The recall involves 215,124 vehicles.
The Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) actuator pumps may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal circuit board. This leak may result in an electrical short, increasing the risk of a fire. If brake fluid has leaked onto the circuit board, the ABS warning lamp will remain illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine start up.
Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the serial number on the ABS actuator, replacing it as necessary, free of charge. The recall began October 29, 2018. If the ABS warning lamp remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine start up, owners are advised to park the vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures and to not drive the vehicle. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-867-7669 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
