Nissan Recalls Maxima and Murano Models Due to Brake Fluid Leak Fire Risk

Nissan North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2016-2017 Nissan Maxima vehicles manufactured between February 10, 2015, and August 19, 2016, that are equipped with Intelligent Cruise Control. The recall also covers 2015-2017 Murano vehicles manufactured between August 22, 2014, and August 19, 2016, equipped with Intelligent Cruise Control, as well as 2015-2016 Murano Hybrid vehicles manufactured between August 22, 2014, and July 19, 2016. A total of 120,329 vehicles are affected by this recall.

The affected vehicles have Anti-Lock Brake (ABS) actuator pumps that may allow brake fluid to leak onto an internal electrical circuit board. This leak may result in an electrical short, which increases the risk of a fire. The recall began on December 12, 2016.

Nissan will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the ABS Actuator and replace it as necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Nissan customer service at 1-800-647-7261. If the ABS warning lamp remains illuminated for more than 10 seconds after engine start-up, owners are advised to park the vehicle outdoors away from other vehicles or structures and not to drive it.
