Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2021 Expedition and Lincoln Navigator vehicles due to a risk of engine compartment fire. The fire may occur while the vehicle is driven or parked, and can happen even when the ignition is in the Off position. The defect involves the battery junction box and electrical grounding system.
This recall affects 66,221 vehicles. A vehicle fire increases the risk of serious injury to occupants and bystanders. As an interim measure, Ford advises owners to park vehicles outside and away from structures and other vehicles until repairs are completed.
The remedy involves dealers inspecting and replacing the battery junction box as necessary and removing a ground wire. Vehicles equipped with standard-duty radiator fan motors will also have an auxiliary electrical box installed. All repairs will be performed free of charge.
Owners received interim notification letters on May 25, 2022. Owners of vehicles with heavy-duty radiator fan motors will receive additional notification once the remedy becomes available. For service, contact Ford at 1-866-436-7332 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
