NHTSA safety advisory
Park this vehicle outside
NHTSA advises parking it away from buildings and other vehicles until the repair is done — the risk exists even when the vehicle is switched off.
This is the agency’s own advisory, not our assessment. Contact the manufacturer or a dealer, and see the official NHTSA notice for the current guidance.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (brake system) that poses a significant risk of property damage and injury due to the potential for an engine compartment fire.
Plain-English summary
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2013-2015 Santa Fe Sport vehicles. The recall addresses a defect where brake fluid may leak inside the Anti-lock Brake System (ABS) module, which can result in an electrical short.
If the ABS module short circuits, there is an increased risk of an engine compartment fire. The recall began on December 22, 2020, and has since been superseded by NHTSA Recall 21V-303, under which all affected vehicles will now be repaired.
Owners are advised to park their vehicles outside as a precaution until the recall repair is complete. Dealers will inspect the ABS module and replace it if necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Hyundai customer service at 1-855-371-9460 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
