Ford F-550 Wheel Hub Fastener Insufficient Tightness Recall
Ford is recalling certain 2023 Ford F-550 Super Duty trucks due to potentially loose wheel hub fasteners that may cause wheel detachment and loss of vehicle control.
NHTSA safety advisory
Do not drive this vehicle
NHTSA advises owners to stop driving this vehicle until the recall repair has been completed.
This is the agency’s own advisory, not our assessment. Contact the manufacturer or a dealer, and see the official NHTSA notice for the current guidance.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting critical safety components (wheel hub fasteners) with serious potential consequences (wheel detachment, loss of control, crash risk). However, no injuries, deaths, or actual incidents have been reported in the source text, making the hazard currently theoretical.
Plain-English summary
Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2023 Ford F-550 SD and other Super Duty models (F-350, F-450, and F-600) from model years 2022 and 2023. The front wheel hub extender fasteners may be insufficiently tightened.
If the fasteners are loose, the wheel and wheel extender can detach from the vehicle. This can result in loss of vehicle control and increased risk of a crash.
Owners should not drive their vehicle until the repair has been completed. Ford dealers will inspect the front wheel hub extender retaining nuts and, if found to be loose, will replace the wheel hub extender, retaining nuts, and hub assembly. All repairs will be performed free of charge.
Owner notification letters were mailed beginning December 7, 2023. Owners can contact Ford customer service at 866-436-7332 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
