Park this vehicle outside

This is the agency’s own advisory, not our assessment. Contact the manufacturer or a dealer, and see the official NHTSA notice for the current guidance.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This vehicle defect affects a critical structural component (hydrogen pressure relief device) that can result in fire risk. The source text does not report any fires or injuries to date. Per the severity rubric, this qualifies as a high-severity (Score 3) risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Hyundai Motor America is recalling certain 2019-2024 Hyundai Nexo vehicles. These vehicles are equipped with a thermally activated pressure relief device (TPRD) in the hydrogen fuel storage system.
The pressure relief device may fail and break, causing a hydrogen gas leak. A hydrogen leak while the vehicle is parked can result in a fire, which increases the risk of injury.
The recall affects approximately 1,545 Nexo vehicles with model years 2019 through 2024.
Owners should park their vehicles outside and away from structures until the recall remedy is completed. Hyundai dealers will replace the pressure relief device at no cost. Interim safety notification letters were mailed on November 8, 2024, with final owner notification letters to be mailed in phases beginning January 6, 2025. Owners can contact Hyundai Customer Service at 800-633-5151 with questions.
