2021 International MV and HV trucks missing required reflective tape
Navistar is recalling 2021 International MV and HV trucks that may lack reflective tape on the cab, required by federal safety standards. Without it, trucks are less visible at night, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Minor labeling or packaging issue, or a voluntary precautionary recall. Risk of harm is low but real — follow the manufacturer's instructions.
Our severity reasoning: No injuries or crashes have been reported. The missing reflective tape is a compliance issue rather than a structural vehicle defect, with a simple, free remedy. This is preventive rather than responsive to actual incidents.
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2021 International MV and HV vehicles with specific fifth-wheel configurations. These vehicles may not have reflective tape applied to the right and left upper contours of the cab, failing to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 108, which requires reflective devices on vehicles.
Without the reflective strips, a truck operating without a trailer at night may be less visible to other drivers, increasing the risk of a crash.
Approximately 14 vehicles with feature codes 10EWW, 10EYD, 10HYR, 10JPJ (fifth wheel, stationary), 10HJA (fifth wheel, air slide), or 10WDN (fifth wheel mounting angles) are affected by this recall.
Owners will be notified by Navistar. Dealers will install the reflective tape at no charge. The recall began on October 21, 2020. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
