Chrysler is recalling 2008 Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles because a water leak may cause the airbag to deploy unexpectedly, posing an injury risk.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (HVAC leak affecting airbag system) with a potential for significant injury from inadvertent airbag deployment, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.

Plain-English summary

Chrysler Group LLC is recalling certain model year 2008 Chrysler Town and Country and Dodge Grand Caravan vehicles. These vehicles may experience a water leak at the heating and air conditioner (HVAC) drain grommet. This leak can lead to the illumination of the airbag warning light and a potential inadvertent airbag deployment.

An inadvertent airbag deployment could result in injury to the seat occupant in front of the deploying airbag and/or a vehicle crash. The recall affects approximately 299,635 vehicles.

Dealers will replace the HVAC drain grommet free of charge. The safety recall began on January 14, 2011. Owners may contact Chrysler at 1-800-853-1403 or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration's Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
