What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (air bag control module failure) that poses a significant risk of injury and vehicle crash, meeting the criteria for a Severe rating.
Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain model year 2003 and 2004 Honda Odyssey and model year 2003 Acura MDX vehicles. The recall involves approximately 374,618 vehicles. The defect is caused by electrical noise that may cause a component in the air bag control module to fail. This failure can result in the front air bags, side curtain air bags, and/or seatbelt pretensioners deploying inadvertently while the vehicle is being operated.
Inadvertent deployment of these safety systems may increase the risk of injury to occupants and the possibility of a vehicle crash. Honda will notify owners, and dealers will install a noise suppressor unit free of charge to correct the issue. The recall began on November 1, 2013, with a renotification letter sent on July 11, 2014. Owners may contact Honda at 1-800-999-1009 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
