What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a risk-of-harm product (pedestrian safety hazard) where no injuries have been reported. The defect violates Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 141, but without reported accidents or injuries, it does not qualify for a higher severity level per the rubric.
Plain-English summary
General Motors is recalling certain 2025 Chevrolet Silverado EV work trucks due to a defect in the pedestrian alert sound system. The system may not produce sound at a sufficient volume to meet federal safety requirements.
These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 141, which sets minimum sound requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles. The insufficient sound volume may result in pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
Approximately 46 units are affected. General Motors will update the software in the body control module (BCM) free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed January 22, 2025.
Owners should contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 to schedule the free software update. Additional information is available from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration at 1-888-327-4236.
