Plain-English summary
General Motors is recalling 7,606 2025 Chevrolet Equinox EV vehicles. The pedestrian alert sound system in these vehicles may have incorrect software and not produce sound at sufficient volume.
These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) No. 141, which sets minimum sound requirements for hybrid and electric vehicles. The alert sound is intended to warn pedestrians of the vehicle's presence.
A vehicle with insufficient alert sound may result in pedestrians being unaware of an approaching vehicle, increasing the risk of injury.
The remedy is a software update to the body control module (BCM), which will be performed free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on January 21, 2025. Owners can contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) for more information.
