Mercedes-Benz EQE and EQS vehicles recalled for defective pedestrian alert software

Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain 2022–2025 S-Class, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS, and EQS SUV vehicles because the Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) software may produce an incorrect warning sound while reversing, potentially failing to alert pedestrians.

Plain-English summary

Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2022–2025 S-Class, EQE, EQE SUV, EQS, and EQS SUV vehicles. The Acoustic Vehicle Alerting System (AVAS) software in these vehicles may cause an incorrect external pedestrian warning sound while reversing. These vehicles fail to comply with the requirements of Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 141, which sets minimum sound requirements for hybrid electric vehicles.

A vehicle that makes an incorrect sound may fail to alert pedestrians of a reversing vehicle, increasing the risk of crash.

Owners affected by this recall should contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372. Dealers will update the AVAS software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed August 1, 2025. MBUSA's reference number for this recall is 2025070005.
