Volvo Bus is recalling 2018-2020 9700 models because passenger seat belt attachments may not anchor properly, increasing injury risk in crashes.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (seat belt anchorages) that fails to meet federal safety standards, creating a significant risk of injury in a crash, which aligns with the 'Severe' criteria for structural defects.
Plain-English summary
Volvo Bus Corporation is recalling certain 2018-2020 Volvo 9700 vehicles. The recall addresses a defect where passenger seat belt attachments may not be sufficient to anchor the seat belts and restrain occupants in the event of a crash. As a result, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 210, "Seat Belt Assembly Anchorages."
In the event of a crash, a passenger who does not remain properly restrained has an increased risk of injury. Volvo Bus will notify owners, and dealers will add reinforcement to the passenger seats free of charge. The recall began on December 11, 2019.
