GM Recalls 2014 Chevrolet Caprice and SS for Airbag Deployment Risk
General Motors is recalling 2014 Chevrolet Caprice and SS vehicles because a missing seat bracket may cause airbags to deploy with excessive force.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk-of-harm product (airbag deployment intensity) where injury has not yet been reported, fitting the 'High' severity criteria for theoretical hazards without confirmed injuries.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Caprice and Chevrolet SS vehicles. The Chevrolet Caprice vehicles were manufactured between August 14, 2013, and February 3, 2014, while the Chevrolet SS vehicles were manufactured between August 15, 2013, and February 16, 2014.
The recall addresses a defect where replacement seat base assemblies may have been installed without transferring the seat position target bracket from the old seat to the new one. If this bracket is missing, the airbag may deploy at a higher intensity than necessary during a crash, which increases the risk of injury.
The recall began on December 28, 2015. General Motors will notify owners, and dealers will inspect the vehicles and install a seat frame equipped with a target bracket if necessary, free of charge. Owners may contact Chevrolet customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
