Honda and Acura vehicles recalled for faulty passenger seat weight sensor
Honda and Acura are recalling multiple 2016–2026 model-year vehicles because the front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit, causing unintended airbag deployment during a crash.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The hazard involves unintended airbag deployment, which presents a direct risk of injury in a crash scenario. Although no reported illnesses or injuries are stated in the source, the structural nature of the defect (sensor failure causing deployment) and its potential to cause harm in a common driving situation (crash) places it in the High category, consistent with risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Honda (American Honda Motor Co.) is recalling certain 2016–2026 model-year Honda and Acura vehicles, including the Accord, Accord Hybrid, Civic, Civic Hatchback, Civic Type R, CR-V, CR-V Hybrid, Fit, HR-V, Insight, Odyssey, Passport, Pilot, Ridgeline, and the Acura MDX, RDX, and TLX. The front passenger seat weight sensor may crack and short circuit.
When the sensor cracks and short circuits, it can cause the airbags to deploy unintentionally during a crash. Unintended airbag deployment increases the risk of injury.
Dealers will replace the seat weight sensors free of charge. Owner notification letters are expected to be mailed July 6, 2026. Vehicle Identification Numbers (VINs) involved in this recall will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning May 29, 2026.
Owners may contact Honda's customer service at 1-888-234-2138. This recall expands previous NHTSA recall number 24V064.
