General Motors is recalling 2014 Chevrolet Corvettes because a module short circuit may disable airbags and seat belt pretensioners.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect where safety systems (airbags and pretensioners) may fail to deploy, significantly increasing the risk of occupant injury in a crash.
Plain-English summary
General Motors LLC is recalling certain model year 2014 Chevrolet Corvette vehicles manufactured between April 23, 2014, and April 25, 2014. The recall addresses a defect in the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM), which may experience an internal short circuit. This malfunction can result in the deactivation of the vehicle's air bags and seat belt pretensioners.
If the SDM short circuits, the air bags may not deploy and the seat belt pretensioners may not activate during a crash. This failure increases the risk of occupant injury in the event of a collision.
GM will notify owners, and dealers will replace the Sensing and Diagnostic Module (SDM) free of charge. The recall began on August 1, 2014. Owners may contact General Motors customer service at 1-800-222-1020 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
