2025 Mazda CX-50 Forward Sensing Camera Malfunction Disables Safety Systems
Mazda is recalling 2025 CX-50 and certain 2024 models due to a forward sensing camera malfunction that may prevent automatic emergency braking and lane-keep assist systems from functioning, increasing crash risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Multiple critical safety systems (emergency braking, lane-keep assist, adaptive headlights) are affected by a camera malfunction. No injuries, deaths, or crashes are reported. This high-risk defect without documented harm meets the criterion for Score 3 (High): risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Mazda North American Operations is recalling 2025 Mazda CX-50 vehicles, along with 2024 Mazda 3 and CX-30 models, due to a malfunction in the forward sensing camera (FSC) system.
The forward sensing camera malfunction may prevent two critical safety systems from functioning properly: the automatic emergency braking system and the lane-keep assist system. Additionally, the headlights will not automatically adjust from high beams to low beams as intended. These system failures can increase the risk of a crash.
Approximately 672 vehicles across all affected models are potentially impacted by this defect. Owners who received notification letters (mailed September 24, 2024) should contact Mazda customer service at 1-800-222-5500, Option 6 to arrange inspection and replacement of the forward sensing camera.
Dealers will replace the forward sensing camera at no cost to owners. For additional information, owners can contact the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153) or visit www.nhtsa.gov.
