Mazda3 and CX-30 airbag sensors can deactivate the airbags
Mazda is recalling certain 2024-2025 Mazda3 and CX-30 vehicles because the Sophisticated Air Bag Sensor unit may set an error code and deactivate the airbags due to a low battery condition.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 4 covers structural vehicle defects: the sensor can deactivate the airbags entirely, so occupant protection is absent in a crash rather than degraded.
Plain-English summary
Mazda North American Operations is recalling certain 2024-2025 Mazda3 and CX-30 vehicles. About 171,412 units are potentially affected.
The Sophisticated Air Bag Sensor (SAS) units may set an error code and deactivate the air bags, due to a low battery condition.

Dealers will reprogram the SAS unit with improved software or replace the unit, free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on July 24, 2025. Owners may contact Mazda customer service, referencing recall number 7525E, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
