2023 International Trucks Recalled for Parking Brake Defect
Navistar is recalling certain 2023 International trucks because the Intellipark Parking Valve Module can fail to engage the parking brake, risking vehicle rollaway. The manufacturer will replace the defective component.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This recall involves a structural vehicle defect (parking brake system failure) that creates genuine risk of vehicle rollaway and crashes. No injuries or property damage have been reported. Per the rubric, this meets the criterion for 'risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.'
Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2023 International trucks, including models HV, HX, LT, RH, and Lonestar. The Intellipark Tractor Park Valve Module (PVM) in these vehicles may intermittently fail to move into the park position when the park switch is activated.
When the PVM becomes stuck in the un-parked position, it cannot engage the parking brake. This failure can cause a vehicle to roll away, increasing the risk of a crash.
The recall applies to 2023 model year International HV, HX, LT, RH, and Lonestar vehicles. Owner notification letters were mailed on November 3, 2023. Bendix will replace the Intellipark PVM.
Owners should contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY: 1-800-424-9153). Additional information is available at www.nhtsa.gov.
