Plain-English summary
Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2022-2023 International HX, HV, LT, MV, RH, and LoneStar models, as well as the 2022 International WorkStar and IC Bus TC commercial bus models. These vehicles have steering gears that may have been assembled incorrectly during manufacturing, which can cause the gears to fracture. A fractured steering gear can result in loss of steering control, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will inspect the steering gear serial numbers and replace any defective steering gears free of charge. Interim owner notification letters were sent on August 18, 2022. Remedy parts were expected to become available in mid-October 2022. Owners should contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 or their vehicle dealer to schedule inspection and replacement.
The National Highway Traffic Safety Administration (NHTSA) Vehicle Safety Hotline can be reached at 1-888-327-4236 (TTY 1-800-424-9153), or visit www.nhtsa.gov for more information. The recall affects approximately 33,655 vehicles.
