Plain-English summary
Mitsubishi Motors North America, Inc. is recalling certain model year 2017 Mirage vehicles manufactured between October 28, 2015, and August 4, 2016. These vehicles are equipped with High Intensity Discharge (HID) headlamps. The recall affects 587 vehicles.
The affected vehicles may have been assembled without the headlight horizontal adjustment lockout clips properly secured. This condition causes the vehicles to fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) number 108. If the locking clip is not secured, the headlight can be adjusted in a way that reduces the driver's visibility or blinds oncoming vehicles, which can increase the risk of a crash.
Mitsubishi will notify owners, and dealers will secure the horizontal locking clips as necessary, free of charge. The recall began on September 3, 2016. Owners may contact Mitsubishi customer service at 1-888-648-7820 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
