Mitsubishi Outlander PHEV liftgate gas spring cylinders corrode unexpectedly
Mitsubishi is recalling certain 2018–2022 Outlander PHEV and 2014–2020 Outlander vehicles because liftgate gas spring cylinders may corrode, lose pressure, rupture, or cause the liftgate to fall unexpectedly, creating injury risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: This involves a structural vehicle defect with potential for injury (liftgate rupture or unexpected fall), but no illnesses or injuries are reported in the source text. The hazard is real and imminent (corrosion-related failure) but not yet actualized, placing it at High per the rubric for risk-of-harm products without reported injury.
