Ford Recalls 2024-2026 Mustangs for Wiring Harness Ground Fracture Risk

Ford is recalling 2024-2026 Mustangs because engine compartment wiring harness ground connections may fracture, potentially causing loss of drive power or essential vehicle functions.

What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural vehicle defect (wiring harness fracture) that results in a loss of drive power and reduced visibility, explicitly increasing the risk of a crash.

Plain-English summary

Ford Motor Company is recalling certain 2024-2026 Mustang vehicles due to a defect in the engine compartment wiring harness. The ground connections may fracture, which can result in a loss of drive power or a loss of function in the windshield washing system, headlights, air conditioning, or engine cooling fan. These vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard (FMVSS) numbers 108 and 104.

A loss of driver power increases the risk of a crash. Additionally, a loss of headlight function or windshield washing system function can reduce visibility, further increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will replace the engine compartment wiring harness ground terminals free of charge. Interim letters notifying owners of the safety risk are expected to be mailed on August 31, 2026. Additional letters will be sent once the remedy is available, which is anticipated in March 2027. Owners may contact Ford customer service at 1-866-436-7332. Ford's number for this recall is 26C40.
