Mercedes-Benz and Freightliner Sprinter 2500 Emergency Window Recall
NHTSA recalls 2010-2011 Sprinter 2500 vans because the emergency exit window may separate from the body, posing an injury risk.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a structural component (emergency exit window) that may separate and cause injury, fitting the 'High' criteria for risk-of-harm products where injury has not yet been reported.
Plain-English summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2010-2011 model year Freightliner Sprinter 2500 and Mercedes-Benz Sprinter vehicles equipped with an emergency exit window. The recall addresses a defect where the adhesive bond between the glass and the hinge on the top of the window may loosen.
If the bond loosens, the emergency exit window may separate from the vehicle body and fall, which could increase the risk of injuries to the driver or passengers. The safety recall began on February 11, 2011.
Dealers will replace the emergency exit window free of charge if necessary. Owners may contact Sprinter at 1-201-573-0600 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for more information.
