Polestar 2 rearview camera may not display when reversing

Polestar is recalling certain 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles because the rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse, failing FMVSS 111.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: a rear visibility aid may not display, but the vehicle retains control and propulsion and no incidents are recorded.

Plain-English summary

Polestar Automotive USA, Inc. is recalling certain 2021-2025 Polestar 2 vehicles. About 27,816 units are potentially affected.

The rearview camera image may not display when the vehicle is placed in reverse. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 111, "Rear Visibility".

NHTSA states that a rearview camera image that does not display reduces the driver's view of what is behind the vehicle, increasing the risk of a crash.

Dealers will update the vehicle software free of charge. Owner notification letters were mailed on June 20, 2025. Owners may contact Polestar customer service at 1-800-806-2504, referencing recall number RP1056, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
