2023 Volkswagen ID.4 Rearview Camera Display Defect Recall
The rearview camera may not display on certain 2023 Volkswagen ID.4 vehicles when reversing or using park, reducing rear visibility and increasing crash risk. Dealers will replace the camera control module free of charge.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: The recall addresses a defect in a critical vehicle safety system (rear visibility compliance per Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111). However, no injuries or crashes have been reported, and the potential harm remains theoretical. Risk-of-harm products without reported injuries score 3.
Plain-English summary

The recall addresses non-compliance with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard 111, which establishes rear visibility requirements. A blank rearview camera display reduces rear visibility, increasing the risk of a backing accident.
