2025-2026 Volkswagen Taos Fuel Pressure Sensor Separation Risk
Volkswagen is recalling 2025-2026 Taos vehicles because the fuel pressure sensor may dislodge during a rear-end crash, violating fuel system safety standards and increasing fire risk.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect involving fuel system integrity. The fuel pressure sensor separation creates a fuel leakage hazard with potential for fire, particularly in rollover crashes. Although no injuries have been reported, the safety-critical nature of fuel systems and the potential for fire in a vehicle crash scenario justifies the Severe classification.
Plain-English summary
Volkswagen Group of America, Inc. is recalling certain 2025 and 2026 Volkswagen Taos vehicles. The vehicles have a fuel system defect: the fuel pressure sensor may dislodge or separate from the fuel tank during a rear-end crash.
If the fuel pressure sensor separates, fuel can leak from the tank. In the event of a rollover crash, this fuel leakage significantly increases the risk of fire. The affected vehicles do not comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 301, which establishes requirements for fuel system integrity.
Approximately 38,710 vehicles are affected. Owners will receive notification letters beginning June 19, 2026. Volkswagen dealers will install a fuel pressure sensor wiring harness extension, free of charge, to remedy the defect. For more information, affected owners can contact Volkswagen customer service at 1-800-893-5298. Vehicle identification numbers of affected vehicles will be searchable on NHTSA.gov beginning April 29, 2026.
