Mercedes G-Class may show wrong warning light during stability system failure
Mercedes-Benz is recalling certain 2025 G 550, G 580 and AMG G 63 vehicles because the electronic stability program may display an incorrect warning light during an ESP system failure.
What this means for you
Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.
Our severity reasoning: Rubric level 3 covers risk-of-harm where injury has not yet been reported: the defect is in how a fault is signalled to the driver rather than in the stability system itself, and no incidents are recorded.
Plain-English summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2025 G 550, G 580 and AMG G 63 vehicles. About 6,247 units are potentially affected.
The vehicle's electronic stability program (ESP) may display an incorrect warning light during an ESP system failure. As such, these vehicles fail to comply with Federal Motor Vehicle Safety Standard number 126, "Electronic Stability Control Systems", and 101, "Control and Displays".
NHTSA states that an incorrectly displayed warning light can fail to alert the driver to critical safety information, increasing the risk of a crash.
Dealers will update the ESP control unit software free of charge. Owner notification letters were expected to be mailed on June 17, 2025. Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372, or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
