Plain-English summary
Mercedes-Benz USA, LLC is recalling certain 2016-2017 G550 4Matic, G63 AMG, and G65 AMG vehicles. The recall involves a malfunction of the Electronic Stability Program (ESP) that can occur while Distronic Plus is engaged. This issue may cause the engine to fail to reduce power, regardless of the vehicle's speed, driving situation, or brake application.
The defect increases the braking effort required to stop the vehicle and may necessitate shifting to neutral, which lengthens the stopping distance and increases the risk of a crash. Dealers will reprogram the ESP control unit software to correct the issue at no charge to the owner. The recall began on December 6, 2017.
Owners may contact MBUSA customer service at 1-800-367-6372 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236. MBUSA's number for this recall is 2017110012.
