Vehicle recall: Tesla Model X and S horn pad defect

Tesla is recalling certain 2021-2024 Model S and 2021-2025 Model X vehicles with air bags featuring incorrect horn pads that may prevent the horn from functioning. An inoperative horn could increase collision risk by preventing drivers from warning others.

What this means for you

Real risk of harm even if no illness or injury has been reported yet. Stop using the product and follow the agency's guidance.

Our severity reasoning: This is a risk-of-harm vehicle safety product (non-functional horn) where no injuries or crashes have been reported. It meets the rubric criterion for Score 3 (High): a risk-of-harm product where injury has not yet been reported.
