2023 Cadillac XT6 Transmission Defect Recall for Half-Shaft Disengagement
General Motors is recalling 2023 Cadillac XT6 and related vehicles due to a transmission defect. An incorrectly built sun gear can cause the half-shaft to disengage, risking loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway.
What this means for you
Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.
Our severity reasoning: This is a structural vehicle defect affecting the automatic transmission that can cause the half-shaft to disengage, resulting in loss of drive power or vehicle rollaway. The defect meets the Severe (4) threshold due to the structural nature of the powertrain defect and the increased risk of crash, even though no injuries are reported in the source text.
Plain-English summary
General Motors, LLC is recalling certain 2023 Cadillac XT6, GMC Acadia, Chevrolet Blazer, and Traverse vehicles, as well as 2022-2023 Cadillac XT5 models. The automatic transmission in these vehicles may have been built with an incorrect sun gear.
An incorrectly built sun gear can result in the driver-side half-shaft disengaging from the transmission. If this occurs, the vehicle may lose drive power or experience rollaway when placed in park, either of which increases the risk of a crash.
Affected owners received notification letters mailed July 27, 2023. Dealers will replace the sun gears at no charge. The remedy became available on August 31, 2023. Owners may contact General Motors customer service or the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236 for assistance.
