What this means for you

Illness, injury, or structural failure has been reported. Stop using the product immediately and contact the manufacturer for a refund or repair.

Our severity reasoning: The recall involves a risk of fire, which is a significant hazard. Per the rubric, recalls with significant injury or property-damage reports (or high-risk fire hazards) are classified as Severe.

Plain-English summary

Navistar, Inc. is recalling certain 2019 International CV vehicles equipped with Duramax 6.6 liter diesel engines and an optional engine-block heater (feature code 12XBL). The recall involves 705 vehicles.

The engine block heater cord or the terminals that connect the heater cord to the block heater may short circuit and fail. A short-circuit may damage the engine components and increase the risk of fire.

Navistar will notify owners, and dealers will replace the engine block heater free of charge. Navistar issued an interim notification to owners on May 31, 2019, and a second letter will be mailed when the remedy becomes available. The recall began on November 14, 2019. Owners may contact Navistar customer service at 1-800-448-7825 or the NHTSA Vehicle Safety Hotline at 1-888-327-4236.
